The Qlik Sense log files can be easily collected using the Log Collector, which is embedded in the Qlik Sense Management Console and is the last item listed in the Configure Systems section. However, the best way to gather these logs is to use the Qlik Sense Log Collector. It’s important to note that the user must be a root admin and have administrative permissions to perform this task.
Steps to Collect Log Files:
- Log in to the Windows Server
Access the Qlik Sense node by logging into the Windows Server. - Open Windows File Explorer
Launch the File Explorer. - Navigate to the Log Collector Folder
Go to the following path: C:\Program Files\Qlik\Sense\Tools\QlikSenseLogCollector. - Run the Log Collector as a Different User
- Hold down the Shift key and right-click on QlikSenseLogCollector.exe.
- Choose Run as different user.
- Enter Qlik Sense Service Account Credentials
Input the credentials for the Qlik Sense service account. - Configure Log Collection
- Specify the date range for the logs (at least 5 days if possible).
- Include the support case number to incorporate it into the ZIP file name.
- Choose additional options, such as including archive logs.
- Start the Collection Process
Click Collect to begin gathering the logs. - Handle Specific Scenarios (If Needed)
If Qlik Sense isn’t automatically accessible on the node, select one of the following options:- Qlik Sense is running and on this host
This option provides more automated log collection features. - Qlik Sense is not running or accessible
Manually define the path to the local Qlik Sense log folder. - Qlik Sense is located elsewhere
Enter the Fully Qualified Domain Name (FQDN) of the remote Qlik Sense server.
- Qlik Sense is running and on this host
- Wait for Collection to Complete
Allow the tool to finish collecting the logs. - Close the Tool
Once the process is complete, click Close. - Review the Generated ZIP File
Navigate to C:\Program Files\Qlik\Sense\Tools\QlikSenseLogCollector and open the generated ZIP file. You don’t need to extract the files; simply double-click the ZIP file to browse its contents.- Ensure it contains JSON and TXT files, especially if system info options were selected in Step 6.
- Verify that there is a separate folder for each node in the deployment, named accordingly.
- Confirm the presence of a “Log” folder representing archived logs from persistent storage.
- Verify ZIP File Contents
If the ZIP file appears incomplete, repeat the above steps or contact Qlik support for further assistance. - Attach the ZIP File to a Support Case
If the contents are correct, attach the ZIP file to your support case for further analysis by Qlik.
In case the Qlik Sense Log Collector does not work as expected, you can manually gather the logs. The default storage locations are as follows:
- Default storage (before archiving): C:\ProgramData\Qlik\Sense\Log
- Default archive storage: C:\ProgramData\Qlik\Sense\Repository\Archived Logs
- For manual retrieval of specific logs, such as reload logs, refer to the guide on How to Find the Script (Reload) Logs in Qlik Sense Enterprise.
By following these steps, you can ensure that you have the necessary log files for troubleshooting and support purposes.
