Qlik Sense provides a flexible and powerful platform for creating data visualizations. However, to ensure clarity and usability, it is important to follow design best practices when creating visualizations on the Sheet section in Qlik Sense Hub. Here are the first five key best practices:
1. Use of Colors for Contrast/Focus Only
Avoid excessive colors that may overwhelm users. Instead, use colors strategically to highlight important trends, comparisons, or alerts.
Example: Use a single color for bars in a bar chart but apply a contrasting color to highlight the highest value.
2. Use Master Items for Commonly Used Calculations
Master items allow you to define measures, dimensions, and visualizations once and reuse them throughout your app, ensuring consistency.
Example: If you frequently calculate Total Sales, define it as a Master Measure rather than manually adding the expression each time.
3. Use Templates/Themes Where Available
Qlik Sense supports themes to maintain a uniform look across visualizations. Using themes ensures a professional and consistent appearance.
Example: Apply a predefined corporate theme that includes colors and fonts aligning with company branding.
4. Display Optimized for User Screen Resolutions
Ensure that visualizations fit well on the screens your users commonly use, whether desktop or mobile.
Example: Use responsive design features and avoid excessive scrolling by keeping dashboards concise.
5. Design Consistency Across Tabs
Maintain consistency across all sheets to improve user navigation and readability.
Example: Keep filters, KPIs, and frequently used charts in the same positions on each tab.
